Grant Evans
Director of Programs, Education & Environment Grant Evans retired in 2006 after spending thirty years with Education Queensland as a classroom teacher, Deputy Principal and Principal in various locations around the state. His last nine years were spent as Principal of Freshwater State School in Cairns. Since his retirement he has been involved in a number of different ventures including judging Green and Healthy Schools and the Clean Beach Challenge with Keep Australia Beautiful Queensland.Most recently he has been contracted with the Gold Coast City Council as a project officer developing the Butt Free City litter campaign.
His initial interest in the environment developed in the early 1970s during his university student years and as an avid surfer and user of beaches up and down the east coast of Australia.
Throughout his teaching career, he promoted environmental education and engendered in students a keen interest in the built and natural environments. Involvements in Green and Healthy schools, Reef Guardians, Solar Schools, and local council initiatives have been a positive outcome of his leadership in this area.
In addition to his Diploma of Teaching and Bachelor of Education, Grant has a Bachelor of Science in Australian Environmental Studies from Griffith University.
