Tidy Towns

More than just a beauty contest,  Tidy Towns celebrates environmental and community development in Queensland since 1971, and has become the most broadly contested civic program in Queensland.

A “tidy” town is a community that works together to improve its appearance and environment, implementing sustainable practices and programs.

From the smallest and most remote communities of fewer than 10 people, to the regional metropolises, Tidy Towns brings communities together.  The program acknowledges and rewards regional communities by recognizing projects that enhance and look after the community’s assets and surrounding environment.

Each year, hundreds of Queensland village, town and city communities vie for the prestigious title of Queensland's Tidiest Town.

Keep Australia Beautiful Queensland judges take into account every community's geographic, environmental, cultural and economic circumstances, and assess how efficiently and effectively the community uses the resources available to it in each award category.

ENVIRONMENTAL PROTECTION AWARD … commitment to protecting and managing the environment

QUEENSLAND’S YOUNG LEGENDS AWARD … demonstrated accomplishment in youth initiated or led activities

ENERGY CONSERVATION CHAMPIONS AWARD … accomplishment in the conservation of energy

Paradise & Bishopp Outdoor Advertising HERITAGE AWARD … commitment to the preservation, conservation and celebration of history, heritage and culture

BUSH SPIRIT AWARD … commitment to solving problems faced during difficult times

LITTER PREVENTION AWARD … litter management and abatement within the community

RESOURCE RECOVERY AWARD…  conservation of natural resources, through recovery, reuse and appropriate waste management

PARTNERSHIPS AWARD … partnering to motivate, educate, involve and enhance the community

WATER CONSERVATION AWARD … outstanding accomplishment in water conservation
