Adopt-a-Road
Any interested group can adopt a section of road (subject to Main Roads or local authority sign-off) to participate in the program. Adopting groups must decide on the section of road they wish to adopt and register by completing the Online Registration Form.
Main Roads or the relevant local authority will determine whether the proposed section of road is suitable (safe) for inclusion in the program. Once a site has been approved, an Adopt-a-Road group will prepare a Site Safety Plan to ensure that issues such as personal safety are addressed.
Each Adopt-a-Road group will be issued with an Adopt-a-Road kit consisting of safety vests, road safety signs, sharps containers (if applicable), gloves and litter bags. The safety guidelines and a safety video are accessible below.
Adopt-a-Road groups are asked to carry out their activities on a regular basis, at least four times per year for two years, and to provide written reports back to Keep Australia Beautiful Queensland after each activity.
The safety of Adopt-a-Road volunteers is paramount. A set of detailed and very specific safety guidelines has been developed and must be reviewed prior to the start of any Adopt-a-Road activity.
